Delegation is not assigning tasks that you don’t want to do but sharing of authority that will setup your subordinate leaders for success and prepare them for bigger roles.

Ask yourself, why do you want to delegate. If the answer is “I dont have time for this” then delegation is not the answer, maybe look into prioritization or task assignment not delegation. Here are a few reasons to delegate:

  • Grow the team and spot future leaders.
  • Looking to fuel innovation
  • Want to disrupt status quo

We will discuss the ACE model for delegation. We will cover what to delegate, how to setup your leaders for success and how to execute on the plan.

ACE Model (Assess, Communicate, Execute)

Assessment ( what to delegate)

  • Start by understanding the requirements of the individual leaders, what do they seek in terms of job delight, what are the looking from career perspective, what are the comfortable doing.
  • Assess the individual and see what are their strengths and opportunities.
  • Appetite for Risk, this is a critical step. Delegation means sharing authority not accountability. You will still be accountable for the outcome, so plan accordingly.
