I am joining Paylocity (NASDAQ: PCTY) as their CTO starting 09/27. I want to share with you “why Paylocity” and “why now”.
Does this sound somewhat familiar? I’m presenting to my teams at an All Hands and suddenly, my 19-month old toddler shuffles into the playroom (of which half is now my office), wearing a traditional Indian dress. While I am focused on my screen to finish my thought, I can feel her beaming for my attention. All I can do is slightly look out of the corner of my eye, stifle a grin, finish my part and turn the presentation over to a colleague. I immediately turn off my zoom camera, clap, and open my arms, “You look so beautiful!”
Now, I’m choosing to share a precious moment over one of the many difficult ones because, well, we know the hardships very well at this point. But the point is, our workplace has changed. We are now tapping in and out, turning our cameras on and off, side conversations are with a toddler and the occasional drop-in is now a more formal Zoom invite link or Slack message. Many companies are constantly working to solve for employee engagement, but the problem is big enough that the here and there bandaid just can’t solve everything. Nothing about it is streamlined.
