6 simple questions will unravel if you are dealing with a great team. As a manager, I ask these questions to myself and my team on a regular cadence to assess where do we need to improve as a team.

It is not the products or visions that disrupt the course of history, it is the teams that change the world. Teams are a cornerstone for every deliverable. A successful leader understands how to make teams more effective and help them be successful.

What is a team?

Two or more people who meet regularly, perceive themselves as a distinct entity, have complementary skills and are committed to a goal and an approach where they hold themselves mutually accountable.

Traits of a Great Team

There is a good amount of literature that talks about what is the outcome of a good team but seldom we talk about what does a leader need to do to make a good team great. There are 6 attributes of a great team, they are as follows:

  • Association to a belief or a mission
  • Self-aware
  • Strong sense of direction
  • Established plan and alignment on the execution of a plan.
  • Established paths to get assistance/help.
  • Able to measure and improve.

As a leader, one needs to ensure that the 6 points discussed above are addressed. Now the question is how would one know all the above avenues are addressed and have a plan towards improvement? The following questionnaire helps exactly with that, discuss the following 6 point question with your team and

Each individual of a great team will have a clear answer to the following questions that all the members of that team will agree with.
